Before Your Appointment
Bring the Original Document
Bring the document that needs to be notarized. Unless specifically discussed beforehand, don't sign the document before your appointment.
Have Valid Identification Ready
A valid, unexpired, acceptable form of identification is generally required to verify your identity.
Make Sure All Required Signers Are Present
Everyone who needs to sign or participate in the notarization must be available when the notarial act takes place.
Know What You Are Signing
A notary can notarize a signature but cannot provide legal advice or explain the legal meaning of your document. If you have questions about what a document means or whether you should sign it, consult the appropriate legal or professional advisor.
Check Your Document Before the Appointment
Make sure the document is complete and that any required witnesses or additional signers are available.

Understanding Notary Services
Acknowledgments
An acknowledgment confirms that you personally appeared before the notary and acknowledged signing the document willingly.
Jurats
A jurat involves taking an oath or affirmation and signing the document in the presence of the notary.
Oaths & Affirmations
A notary can administer an oath or affirmation when a document or situation requires a signer to formally declare that something is true.
Signature Witnessing
Some documents require a notary to witness a signature. The specific requirements can vary depending on the document.
Certified Copies
Missouri law allows notaries to certify copies of certain documents when the document is eligible for copy certification. Not every document can be certified by a notary.
Not sure which type of notarization your document requires? The document itself or the organization requesting the notarization should generally specify what is needed. If you're still unsure, contact MyStamp before your appointment.
